I have a small love for slots that play on stereotypes, especially when some of them are really far out there. Pot O' Gold is yet another slot that has caught my eye with a nice looking theme, some good gameplay and some great fun. Even though I have met quite a few Irish people throughout my life I still expect to see a small man dressed in a green suit and top hat whenever I hear an Irish accent. I know, this is very stereotypical of me and this is one of the reasons why this slot is right up my street.
The Irish themed slot starts off strong with most of the background being made out of green leaves. From there things get even better when the small Irish man in a green top hat and a ginger beard pops out of the "O" in Pot O' Gold. With that said, this is not a theme that has taken ages to develop as all the presumptions are already there and what the game studio has done is played on them to the fullest. However, you will not find any fancy animations accompanying the small green men and the reels. This is a very basic game and it is yet another reason for me to buzz about it.
Pot O' Gold offers players' three individual reels which are all stacked a single frame high with Ireland inspired symbols. For the player with a little less cash - or who might be a bit more cautious - there is the option to go for the minimum overall bet which comes in at just £0.05. Players with a little bit more money can aim for the maximum bet of this slot which comes in at a very low £3. This means that this slot is mainly directed towards beginners and players who prefer the lower stakes rather than the more experienced high rollers out there. Even a mid-range slot player will find the stakes a bit too low for their own liking.
There has been quite a bit of work put in to the different symbols for this slot as there are far more of them than I am used to when it is a single line game. One thing that did surprise me is that they still used three different BAR symbols for this slot even though they have a bunch of Irish themed ones at hand. The Pot of gold is an obvious one, accompanied by four leaf clovers in all shapes and sizes and the nice little green Irish man. There is also a 5 coin which can appear from time to time paying out 4,000 times your line bet.
The game does offer players a free spin feature, however, there is only one free spin and then the game returns to the normal spins. There is also a wild icon with the game and the 5 coin times any win by five if it appears on the winning line after a spin. Even though there is a lack of larger bonus features with this game it still pulls its own weight compared to a lot of other slots out there. This is because the slot has been designed with a specific group of gamblers in mind. The players that love fancy extras and large bets will disregard this game straight away but for the lower level player looking to find a footing in the world of slots this is one of the best machines out there to kick everything off with.
So as a whole I really like this slot. The theme is great, exciting and brings a smile to my face. Another thing I really like is how they have used the symbols available and the lack of a bonus game in this type of slot is a good thing in my opinion. I will not spend hours daily with Pot O' Gold but it is well worth my attention on at least a weekly basis.
